Launch of Deputies Dataset 2002-2026

New public dataset with ideological position estimates for members of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies across six legislative periods.

The PoliCICS laboratory is pleased to announce the launch of the Deputies Dataset 2002-2026, a new public resource developed by researcher Jorge Fábrega. This dataset provides systematic estimates of the ideological positions of all members of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies across six consecutive legislative periods.

The estimates are based exclusively on roll-call votes related to bill proposals debated and voted on in plenary sessions, offering a robust tool for legislative analysis.

Ideological Distribution

Innovative Methodology

The dataset stands out for including results from three distinct estimation methods, enabling comparative and longitudinal analyses:

  1. DW-NOMINATE: For standard comparisons in the literature.
  2. Bayesian Model: For latent position estimates within each period.
  3. Dynamic Model: A key innovation that links estimates across time, allowing for the comparison of ideological positions over more than two decades, even among legislators from different periods.

Value for Research

This resource is fundamental for researchers interested in studying Chile’s political evolution, allowing for the exploration of phenomena such as political polarization, coalition dynamics, party system development, and the impact of institutional reforms, such as the increase in seats from 120 to 155.

The complete dataset and the methodological article are now available to the academic community and the general public:
